Howdy, folks! It's been a wild year, not only for the world, but for me, since I went from just doing interactive CYOA stories to long-form short stories and captions, and to celebrate, I want to give y'all a chance to stretch your creative muscles. I'd been an avid reader of TG caps for ages before I gave it a shot, and I saw many caption contests, but I was always too unsure to participate in any of them until I started making my own caps and joining the Haven. So as such, I'd like to announce a caption contest of my own!
VanillaThunder's TG Caps Contest!
Theme: Sequels!
I know there are too many sequels out there, but have you been clamoring for a sequel to any of my captions? Here’s your chance to make it happen! Pick any caption of mine that you think needs a sequel, and create one! Now, this doesn't bar me doing sequels to any that are chosen, but I know better than anyone that as a reader of TG captions and stories, sequels aren't always what the readers have in mind, so it's your chance to make sure the sequel hits all of your own personal buttons!
Rules: Personally, I try to keep things PG without any nudity in the pictures (bar when I'm attempting to mimic the style of other captioners who don't adhere to such rules) so I'd appreciate it if you kept things clean.
Other than that, the only other rule is that the caption has to be a sequel to one of my previously posted captions. It can go in any direction you'd like, but I think this'll be interesting.
And I'm sure I've got a few other captioners, cappers, captioneers? I like captioneers, let's go with that, following me, and if you want to throw your hats in the ring, feel free to join in as well!
(Additionally, if you'd like to know the names of any models that I've used in these caps, I categorize captions by model over on my blog: https://vanillathunderstgcaps.blogspot.com So if I know the name of the model, that's where you'll find their name. If there's no name listed, I don't know who they are, unfortunately, but don't feel as if you need to use the same model)
Then go forth my friends, and make a caption! I'm sure there are more qualified sources on how to make them, but for a quick crash course:
I personally use paint.net, a free opensource image editor and all I do is paste the image into the editor, go to change canvas size, stretch it to a little more than twice the initial photo (vertically for vertical photos, horizontally for horizontal) fill in a complementary color on the whitespace and then put the text over it the whitespace. It's pretty straightforward and I'm sure there are tutorials out there who know better than me.
Once it's finished, upload the cap to DeviantArt and tag it “vthunder42” so I'll be able to keep track of them.
The contest will run for a month, so it'll end on March 14th and then I'll put the entries up to a vote! In the event of a tie, I'll break the tie by picking the one I liked the most. The 1st place winner, in addition to getting the satisfaction of winning, will also get any cap request of theirs (within reason) fulfilled by me!
Great idea! Some point soon, I will see if I can get inspired :)
ReplyDeleteFor anyone that needs it, here's an old Paint.Net tutorial for making captions I made a lifetime ago for Rachel's Haven. (FWIW, all of my captions were made using Paint.Net.)
ReplyDeleteGreat concept! Hope you get tons of entries. Here's mine.
